L’Archivio di Stato is built around the vast architectural complex of the former Franciscan convent of Santa Maria dei Frari, one of the most famous buildings in Venice.
Space
It features two magnificent monumental cloisters.
The square-shaped Trinità Cloister is surrounded by a 16th-century portico of round arches supporting a charming balustraded terrace. The central patio - not walkable - is decorated with 18th-century sculptures, as is the terrace, and all framed by the splendid bodies of the basilica and the former Frari convent.
The second cloister, that of Sant’Antonio, also presents a square plan and is, however, fully usable. It features a striking central well in the patio and is framed by the windows of the upper floors of the Archives.
The Cloisters are perfect for large-scale events, breathtaking dinners and gala receptions.
