Hydro is located on the island of Giudecca, two minutes’ walk from the Redentore ferry stop. It is placed at the heart of an evocative shipbuilding context, a reality populated by artisan workshops where upholsterers’ and boat restorers’ laboratories are flanked by spaces dedicated to contemporary art. A meeting between historical charm and tension towards the future that traces the inner soul of the island: a borderland where architecture has layered over its centuries the signatures of brilliant modern designers.
The interiors of Hydro contrast with the adjacent workshops: a long, bright white corridor bounded by two steel-glassed doors. The different heights of the ceiling create interesting chiaroscuro effects that give rhythm and mark the room. The peculiarity of presenting itself as a total white container makes Hydro an extremely versatile space.
It was created to host contemporary art exhibitions but it can easily host meetings and talks, seminars and workshops. It is also the perfect venue for private events, small presentations or screenings. Hydro is located in the heart of CREA Cantieri del Contemporaneo, an international network of curators, artists and art professionals whose interest focuses on the island of Giudecca and its redevelopment.
