The Norman Foster Foundation and Porsche Unveil “Gateway to Venice’s Waterways” at La Biennale di Venezia 2025
The Norman Foster Foundation is proud to announce its participation in the 8th edition of Porsche’s The Art of Dreams initiative with a visionary new project titled Gateway to Venice’s Waterways. The architectural installation will be unveiled during the 19th International Architecture Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, curated by Carlo Ratti, and will be on view from 10 May to 23 November 2025.
Developed in collaboration with Porsche, the installation reflects a shared vision for the future of mobility—one that blends technological innovation with environmental sensitivity and respect for historical context. Venice, a city known for its fragile beauty and rich cultural legacy, becomes a powerful backdrop for exploring new ideas in sustainable urban infrastructure.
Responding to this year’s Biennale theme Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective., Gateway to Venice’s Waterways is a poetic intersection of nature and technology. The installation embodies the potential of design to create meaningful connections between tradition and progress, showcasing how cities can evolve while maintaining their identity.
Led by the Norman Foster Foundation with contributions from Porsche’s Style VP Michael Mauer and Ragnar Schulte, alongside Miguel Kreisler (Empty-BAU) and Christopher Hornzee-Jones (Aerotrope Ltd), the project brings together a multidisciplinary team of experts. Together, they aim to ignite a dialogue about the cities of tomorrow—connected, efficient, and deeply human.
As Norman Foster, President of the Foundation, states:
“By integrating technology, insights from nature, and lessons from the past, we can reimagine cities that are not only more sustainable but also more connected and efficient.”
This installation continues the tradition of The Art of Dreams, Porsche’s global artistic platform, and marks a significant moment where architecture, mobility, and imagination converge.
