Terram intelligere: INTERSTITIUM Montenegro Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2025

We collaborated on the realization of the Montenegro Pavilion for the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. The exhibition Terram intelligere: INTERSTITIUM, curated by Dr. Miljana Zeković, explores the profound relationship between human beings, the environment, and intelligent systems, presenting the earth as an active subject and a site of biological, geological, and cultural memory.

The pavilion is hosted at ArteNova, in Campo San Lorenzo – a venue we manage exclusively. Recently renovated to host contemporary cultural projects, ArteNova is welcoming a national pavilion of the Biennale for the first time. The space was selected and adapted specifically for this interdisciplinary project by the Montenegro Pavilion.

A pavilion-laboratory

Terram intelligere: INTERSTITIUM invites a shift in perspective on the concept of soil, suggesting it not only as a resource to be managed, but as a living system to be understood. The project interweaves architecture, science, and ecological practice, and brings into the exhibition space a functioning experimental laboratory made of polycarbonate, where bacterial cultures derived from soil samples collected throughout Montenegro will be developed.

The pigments and patterns resulting from these processes offer insight into alternative, sustainable, and non-toxic materials for construction. This laboratory forms the core of an exhibition that unfolds across installations, organic matter, and layered reflections on the relationship between humans and the earth. The exhibition is the result of a collaboration with the Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering at the University of Belgrade, and is conceived as an open research platform for the entire duration of the Biennale.

Our contribution

We oversaw all phases of the project: from the proposal and assignment of the venue, to the technical and regulatory management of the space, as well as logistical coordination and installation production.
