TOWARDS 60th ART BIENNALE
The exhibition, titled "Stranieri Ovunque - Foreigners Everywhere" and curated by Adriano Pedrosa, will be open to the public from Saturday 20 April to Sunday 24 November 2024, at the Giardini and the Arsenale, with a pre-opening on 17, 18 and 19 April and the awards and inauguration ceremony on 20 April 2024.
The exhibition develops between the Central Pavilion at the Giardini and the Arsenale, articulated in two distinct nuclei: Contemporary Nucleus and Historical Nucleus. A guiding criterion has been to privilege artists who have never participated in the International Exhibition, with a focus on open-air projects both at the Arsenale and at the Giardini, and a programme of performances during the pre-opening and the last weekend of the exhibition.
The title 'Stranieri Ovunque - Foreigners Everywhere' is taken from works by the Claire Fontaine collective, started in 2004, consisting of neon sculptures in various colours bearing the phrase in different languages. The expression comes from the name of a collective in Turin that fought against racism and xenophobia in the early 2000s.
The curator explains that the title has several meanings, indicating the presence of foreigners wherever one goes and emphasising that, regardless of geographical location, everyone is inherently a foreigner.
